About Us

Vision

WorldMusicGuru brings music to life. Music is a universal language with countless dialects. We apply modern internet technology to bring all world music dialects within easy reach of every willing student.

For immigrants, far from the motherland, music offers a connection to their own heritage. For the adventurous, WorldMusicGuru offers the chance to explore new musical languages and traditions.

WorldMusicGuru seeks to fill several human needs - to retain and define our cultural identity, to explore beyond traditional boundaries, to engage in lifelong learning, to find spiritual awakening. We offer music as a channel to fulfill these needs.

Founder's message

In today's modern world, we are surrounded by music - in the car, in TV commercials, in movies, while shopping, in restaurants, at political rallies, and of course on our portable music players. There is an endless supply of music designed to entertain, excite, and influence us to buy something. Today's TV star is tomorrow's recording artist, singing songs perfectly crafted to suit the latest styles and tastes and to attract us, the "music consumer."

It wasn't always this way. Since ancient times, music has served many important functions –to inspire troops in battle, to soothe babies to sleep, to elevate the spirit, and to bring a community together at festivals, weddings, religious ceremonies, and funerals, and not least, to provide a channel for self-expression. Go to an Irish pub, a traditional ethnic festival, or a local coffee shop featuring local musicians. You will hear and feel music that connects those present to each other and to their common heritage, be it bluegrass, Irish, Indian, or Cajun. Often the audience will join in to sing familiar, eternal songs.

WorldMusicGuru’s mission is to put music back in its rightful place – in the home and in the community. With modern internet and web technology, it is easier than ever to learn music traditions from around the world, and to share our musical talent in turn with the rest of the world.

Studying, teaching and performing music has enabled me to be a music “producer” and changed my lifeforever. It is my sincere wish that WorldMusicGuru does the same for you.
