Founder's message and company history
I have always loved listening to music of all types - jazz, classical guitar, rock, Indian classical, and others. But I love performing music even more. Sometimes I play Spanish classical guitar when I'm alone at home, and in a more reflective mood. Sometimes I play tabla, Indian drums, for a traditional folk or devotional song at a gathering of family and friends.
Learning and teaching tabla for the past 15 years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, especially since I have passed on my interest and skill to my son. Unfortunately for those of us interested in learning such distant musical traditions, the limited availability of teachers in the West makes it difficult to pursue our passion. I was thus grateful when a friend recently introduced me to the convenience of online music lessons. For the first time, my son and I could learn Tabla throughout the year, in our home, from experienced teachers, and at a convenient time.
My positive experience with online learning convinced me to start WorldMusicGuru. In our modern, inter-connected world, learning only Western music in the West makes as much sense as studying only U.S. history in school. My goal is to make "world music" learning as convenient as piano lessons taken from your local teacher.
Studying, teaching and performing music has inspired my creativity and changed my life forever. It is my sincere wish that WorldMusicGuru does the same for you.
