Getting Started

Start teaching and learning online in a few easy steps. If you have registered and are logging in for the first time, follow the instructions below to get active on the site.

*All referenced forms and guides are accessible in the User Menu after logging in.

 1. Purchase, setup and test your equipment

Set up the following equipment, most of which you probably already have. See our detailed recommendations.
  • PC with high-quality speakers
  • Good Internet connection
  • High-resolution webcam with microphone

Check our Links page for musical instrument and equipment stores, as well as other resources.

2b. Students - contact your guru of choice, purchase lessons

  • Search for a guru by name or instrument (including Vocal). If you don't find a suitable instructor, contact us and we'll even help you find one.
  • Contact Customer Service to indicate your interest in a specific guru, or to request a free trial lesson.
  • Purchase lessons for one-time payment or convenient monthly subscription
  • Optional - setup a Google calendar to (re)schedule your own lessons with your guru!

2a. Gurus - complete your guru profile, submit lessons and payment forms

  • Edit your guru profile. After logging in, click My Profile, and select Edit/Update Your Profile to add your bio and lesson details.
  • Submit the Lesson Add/Update form to WorldMusicGuru to add your lessons and rates to the product catalog. Without this step, students cannot purchase your lessons, so don't delay!
  • Submit the Guru Payment form, so that WorldMusicGuru knows how to pay you.

4. Conduct a lesson

  • Guru and student add each other to their Skype contact list
  • Before each lesson, test your Skype connection and webcam
